Outplacement Support

What happens when you are faced with the decision to make a long standing employee redundant and they are in the situation of trying to find a new job in the difficult economic climate?   The answer to this is Outplacement Support - an area that has grown in recent times, but can really make a difference when faced with finding a new role.  In an increasingly competitive market, it is crucial that individuals are best placed to maximise their potential and opportunities, particularly when most of their career may have been spent working for the same business.   Redundancy situations are difficult for everyone to face, but by offering Outplacement Support to employees as part of their redundancy package, you can reduce the burden on the individual and bolster the company's reputation.

HCS has recently been involved in offering this service to a number of businesses, where individuals have been faced with having to consider new careers out with the business – a daunting prospect for anyone to face.

We recommend a step-by-step approach to help determine individual personality profiles and the types of roles that would match that profile, behavioural strengths in a working situation and the types of role to which is most and least suited:

1.     Aligning current skills to personal career goals

It is essential that existing skills are clarified and realigned to goals and values. We work with the individual to meet their needs and circumstances by evaluating current employment experiences and circumstances, enabling us to pinpoint a suitable current career path and the goals required to reach optimum job satisfaction.

2.     CV compilation and advice

We review the client's employment background highlighting unique selling points for prospective employers and we develop an effective CV appropriate both to the market and individual career aspirations. As part of this process we use the findings from a psychometric evaluation in order to focus on key strengths, match these to opportunities in the market place and recognise the areas where further development may be required prior to commencing a job search.  Psychometric evaluation helps to determine preferences, behaviours and styles.

 3. Interview preparation

This includes comprehensive support around competency based interviewing. We help match existing skills to the behaviours (known as “competencies”) required for specific roles and provided the opportunity to practice interview techniques within a comfortable yet objective environment. Following a mock interview session an evaluation exercise is conducted in order to assess the skills and competency evidence provided.  From this, constructive feedback is given.

Following the process, we find that individuals are more focussed and better prepared for interviews and more aware skills and preferences.
